First of all, here is a quick explanation of a Spiritual Gift as defined by Dr. J. Robert "Bobby" Clinton:
A spiritual gift is an unique capacity given by the Holy Spirit given to each believer for service in connection with the church to cause the church to progress quantitatively, qualitatively, and organically.
Now, here are 10 Biblical reasons why it is important for you to know your gifts, understand your gifts and use your gifts for the edification of the Church.
#1. Every single believer has at least one manifestation of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12:7)
#2. God created each member of the body to do a specific task (1 Cor. 12:14-18)
#3. Our differences in the body of Christ are essential and remind us how much we need each other (1 Cor. 12: 19-20)
#4. Every member without exception is absolutely essential to the body (1 Cor. 12:22-24)
#5. We are most happy and enjoy a loving unity when each member functions properly (1 Cor. 12: 25-26, Eph. 4:16)
#6. We are not to be ignorant of our gifts (1 Cor. 12:1-6, 1 Peter 4:10)
#7. We are not to neglect our gifts (1 Tim. 4:14) but rather stir them up (2 Tim. 1:6)
#8. We are to desire strongly to have gifts that edify (1 Cor. 12:31)
#9. Once God gives a gift, it will not be recalled (Rom. 11:29)
#10. The Spirit seeks to find those things through whom He can manifest (Gen. 1:2, Num. 11:26-30, Joel 2:28-29, Acts 2:14-21).
